Our Story

Started in 1978 by two lifelong friends, D&D Appliance Service has been a staple of the Bowling Green, KY community for nearly 50 years.

Our goal was to bring reliable local appliance repair services to our little part of western Kentucky, stepping in as the neighbors folks could call when they needed a hand.

We found that, if you love where you live and the communities you serve, the rest falls in line if you work hard and put in the time.

Nearly 50 Years
of Appliance Services

The story of D&D Appliance Service is one of family, friends, and a commitment to bringing trustworthy local appliance repair services to Bowling Green, KY and its neighbors.

1978-1986

How it All Began

In January 1978, Richard "Dick" Dumond founded D&M Appliance, one of the first appliance repair businesses to lay its roots in downtown Bowling Green, KY.

Dick originally chose the initials "D&M" to commemorate the support of his lifelong friend, Bill Moore, who operated as the business' head of sales and service. The duo had a knack for breathing new life into broken things and brought decades of combined experience into the fold.

Then there was Jean, Dick's wife and a beloved community pillar, who played no small role in the company's success. She was the behind-the-scenes engine that kept things running as she managed the accounting, payroll, inventory, and more.

When D&M Appliance first opened its doors, they focused on washer and dryer repairs and refurbished appliance sales. Later on, they would expand their services to include all home appliances, seeking to better support the needs and requests of the community.

1984

Like Father, Like Son

In 1984, Dick's son, Rickey "Maytag" Dumond, joined the business at the age of 24 after serving four years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

When not working in the shop refurbishing used appliances for resale and assisting Jean with the storefront, Maytag ran service calls and tagged along on repairs with Dick and Bill.

1987-2025

Dumond & Dumond

In 1987, Bill bade his kind farewells to the company. It was then that Dick decided to bring Maytag on as an owner, officially transforming the business into family-ran venture. Thus the decision was made to change its name to D&D Appliance, establishing a new chapter in the company's story.

Dick and Jean continued to operate as pinnacle parts of the business, getting to witness firsthand how their son built upon the foundation his father began nearly a decade ago. And as the business grew, so did their family, the shop often serving as a day-to-day impromptu family gathering place.

2026

Continuing a Legacy

D&D Appliance was originally started by two lifelong friends, and that story came full circle 48 years later when, in January 2026, Maytag welcomed Jason Mills on as owner & business partner.

Having been close friends of the family for nearly 40 years, Jason remains committed to upholding the Dumond legacy together with his son-in-law, Treyton Steele.

They plan to maintain the D&D Appliance name as their family continues the story Dick and Bill began nearly half a century ago.
